Welcome to Sanctuary Health. My name is Petra Caruso, and I am a licensed, board-certified naturopathic physician based in Portland, OR. I graduated from the accredited National University of Natural Medicine in 2006, and owned and operated a busy clinic in SE Portland for many years, which helped me develop my expertise as a physician. In 2015, I sold that clinic to two recent naturopathic graduates and completed a graduate certificate in Trauma-Informed Services via the Portland State University Graduate School of Counseling. In 2016 I created Sanctuary Health.
My vision and passion of Sanctuary Health is working with people who wish to heal body, mind and spirit. Symptom management is not the same as lasting cure. Together, we will use your symptoms as a guide, leading us down deep to the underlying cause of illness, fatigue, or discomfort. Together I will guide you in correcting deficiencies and excesses, shifting unhealthy, outdated beliefs in the process, restoring — or creating for the first time — balance, vitality and wholeness. Healing is a deeply personal process, an individual journey. I strive to bridge the best of conventional medicine, including labs, imaging and evidence-based practices with the best of alternative practices, choosing non-toxic treatments wherever possible and gently removing blocks to lasting cure. I feel humbled and honored to do this healing work. I look forward to joining you on your journey toward optimal health.
